How to prepare going out with your baby

A good plan should be made in order to prepare essential items before leaving. First of all, parents should check initial information about how long the trip will be such as a half day, a full day, over night stay, how many nights, type of accommodation and facilities etc. Listed below is essentials checklist for your babies.

1.  Milk powder and bottles – Based on the length of the trip, if it is a day return, parents should bring milk bottles only few more than regular meals time. The milk powder should be prepared and measured into the bottles or put in a separate container.  Pour hot water in a water flask. Milk should not yet be mixed with hot water and keep for few hours as it might be off and full of bacteria. Babies should drink their milk as soon as it is fresh making. Particularly in a tropical country like Thailand, should be more careful for the disease. Milk must be kept in the fridge, do not leave overnight in normal temperature. Furthermore, parents have to bring washing liquid for milk bottles, bottle washing brush together with bottle steamer.

However if parents feel uncomfortable to carry a big piece of the bottle steamer or there might not have a power point available in the place where you are going, you can replace by soaking bottles in special detergent (produced in tablets and melt in water).  What you should bring is just a small basin to soak the bottles.

2. Baby clothes and diapers – Clothes should be prepared following the climate of places to go. For example, parents should bring caps and closed dresses for babies to protect the sun and the wind when travelling to beaches. Meanwhile, thick clothes should be worn when go shopping in an air-conditioned department store or even put on socks for your baby if the temperature is very cool. Do not forget to bring a blanket to use when seating in the car seat, a stroller or cover the baby’s body when holds him/her in a cold weather.

3. Bathing essentials – In the case of overnight stays, bathing your baby in the face washing sink could be possible (depends on skills of nanny). However, if she is not confident to bath your baby in the face washing sink, a baby bath tub should be bring along the trip. Included are baby soap, baby shampoo, spongy, cotton and cotton swabs, put in traveling packs.

4. Disposable diapers and cleansing equipments for traveling. These items should be prepared in the amount of more than usual. While traveling, using baby wipes becomes more convenient than cleaning by soaked cotton pads, but ensure that babies are not allergic to the baby wipes.

5. Nutritious food for baby – If your baby already consumed some nutritious food at home, but you feel uncomfortable to carry it in a small container along the trip, canned nutritious food might be temporarily replaced.

Even though most mothers do not like their babies to have instant nutrition, this kind of food should be introduced some time to ease the traveling. Therefore, you would rather let your baby try some nutritious food occasionally at home to get used to the food prior the trip.

6. Favourite toys – Take the ones not too large size or hand carry in order to play in a car or an airplane when the baby gets bored during travelling. Or you can bring the big toy but must be in separate parts and assemble later.

During the outgoing trip, do not expect to buy something ahead. There might be an emergency incident that things are not available or run out of socks. Moreover, stuff should be kept into two separated bags; a hand carry bag for using in a car and another bag contained stuff to use later in the trip.

Finally, remind your nanny do not leave the used disposable diapers or any rubbish in the car. They should be thrown away outside, and should not be a burden of the baby’s mum and dad when get off the car.
